Photron FASTCAM MH6 multi-head high-speed camera system

Multiple views. One synchronized, impact-ready system.

Developed for on-board automotive safety testing, defense, vibration, and impact applications, the FASTCAM MH6 places compact camera heads where conventional high-speed cameras cannot fit.

The system supports up to six HD camera heads, up to 12 miniature ST camera heads, or a mixed configuration. Each head connects to the processor through a long camera cable, allowing multiple viewing angles throughout a vehicle, test article, or restricted enclosure.

All connected heads are synchronized through the main processor, while high light sensitivity and a global electronic shutter help preserve image clarity during short, fast, and difficult-to-light events.

High-Speed Performance in Extremely Small Spaces

Choose HD heads for resolution and lens flexibility, ST heads for minimum size and weight, or combine both within the same system.

1920 × 1400HD head at 750 fps
1920 × 1080HD head at 1,000 fps
1280 × 800HD head at 2,000 fps
1280 × 256HD head at 5,000 fps
800 × 600ST head at 1,000 fps
800 × 312ST head at 2,000 fps
800 × 120ST head at 5,000 fps

Configure the system around the test

Select compact HD heads, miniature ST heads, or the longer-recording MH6 LT platform to match the available space and required recording duration.

MH6 HD

Resolution and lens flexibility

Compact 2-megapixel heads provide full HD recording at 1,000 fps and accept readily available ruggedized 1-inch C-mount lenses.

  • 35.4 × 35 × 35.4 mm
  • 100 g per head
  • Up to six heads

MH6 ST

Minimum size and weight

Miniature ST heads fit into exceptionally tight locations while capturing SVGA images at 1,000 fps through rugged M10.5 lenses.

  • 15 × 15 × 15 mm
  • 12 g per head
  • Up to 12 heads

MH6 LT

Extended recording duration

With 2.5 times the internal memory of the standard system, the MH6 LT supports longer track, road, vibration, impact, and process recordings.

  • 60 GB shared memory
  • Internal 1 TB SSD
  • Up to 124 seconds at FHD / 250 fps

Built for demanding on-board testing

The processor manages camera synchronization, trigger distribution, data protection, storage, and transfer for every connected head.

Synchronized Multi-Head Capture

Record multiple viewing angles from one processor with centralized trigger and synchronization control.

Long Camera Cables

Position camera heads throughout the test article using cable lengths designed for flexible on-board installation.

High-G Construction

Camera heads are operationally tested to 160G, while the processor is tested to 100G for impact applications.

Automatic SSD Download

Recorded image data can be transferred automatically to internal SSD storage immediately after the event.

Built-In Accelerometer

The standard MH6 includes a 3-axis, 1 kHz acceleration sensor that can provide a backup shock-level trigger.

Fast Data Transfer

Use Gigabit Ethernet for network camera control and image transfer, or USB3 for local downloads.

Protect critical test data

The standard MH6 provides two levels of captured-data protection: automatic transfer to non-volatile memory after a power failure and automatic image download to its internal SSD.

The MH6 LT expands internal recording capacity and SSD storage for applications where longer recording times are more important than the accelerometer-based trigger function.

Applications

Use the MH6 where multiple synchronized views, compact installation, rugged hardware, and dependable image protection are essential.

Essais de sécurité automobile

Capture occupants, restraints, airbags, interiors, underbody components, suspension, and impact behavior from multiple on-board positions.

Defense and Ballistics

Position rugged heads close to fast-moving or destructive events while locating the processor in a protected area.

Vibration and Shock

Study component movement and structural response during severe vibration, impact, and high-acceleration testing.

Track and Road Testing

Record several synchronized vehicle views during dynamic testing with extended recording available from the MH6 LT.

Confined-Space Imaging

Install small heads within machinery, test fixtures, interiors, and enclosures where a conventional camera body cannot fit.

Industrial Impact Testing

Observe high-speed mechanisms, failures, deformation, and material response from several angles in a single test.
