EMRTC specializes in the research\, development\, testing\, and analysis of energetic materials for both corporate and government clients. \nAs one of several research divisions of New Mexico Tech\, EMRTC has access to university faculty with experience in a wide variety of scientific and technical disciplines. EMRTC’s 40-square-mile field laboratory is located in the mountains adjacent to the New Mexico Tech campus in Socorro\, New Mexico. The field laboratory contains more than 30 test sites\, gun ranges\, other research facilities and storage areas\, allowing for a complete spectrum of research and testing activities. The OSG serves as a technical resource for the government’s Test and Evaluation community. Key functions associated with this group include the acquisition\, processing\, post processing\, analysis\, archiving\, and distribution of imagery from both engineering sequential and Time-Space-Position Information (TSPI) optical systems for missions on land\, in the air\, underwater\, and in space. The focus on imaging within the OSG extends from the ultraviolet to the long wave infrared portion of the electromagnetic spectrum. The group provides a forum for its members to expand their knowledge base\, initiate cooperative research projects\, and improve individual mission performance via semi-annual technical interchange meetings\, task assignments\, and ad hoc committees. You’re not going to want to miss this great event! \nWhen: December 5th. 2018 @ 12pm-1pm EST (9am-10am PST) \nDigital image correlation (DIC) is a widely used full-field measurement technique\, in which a calibrated stereo camera pair determines the 3D coordinates of thousands of points within a dot pattern that is applied with spray paint or ink. During rapid post-processing\, reference coordinates are subtracted from each measurement frame\, thus obtaining full-field 3D displacements and directional and principal strains that can be viewed as color maps\, movies\, vectors\, time histories\, etc. The system can determine local displacements at the micron level despite significant rigid body motion. \nThis seminar will discuss the general benefits of full-field measurements\, which include visualizing strain gradients and hot spots\, verification\, and iteration of finite element models\, and making otherwise impossible measurements. Digital high-speed cameras have been used for DIC at speeds up to 300\,000 frames per second\, but many applications only require 1\,000-10\,000 frames per second. Spanning over 70 technical discipline areas\, AIAA’s conferences provide scientists\, engineers\, and technologists the opportunity to present and disseminate their work in structured technical paper and poster sessions\, learn about new technologies and advances from other presenters\, further their professional development\, and expand their professional networks that furthers their work. \nIn 2012\, AIAA made the decision to transition to a new event model starting in 2014. This new model co-locates and incorporates AIAA’s individual technical conferences as part of five major forums\, each focusing on a major theme — Science and Technology\, Aviation\, Space\, Propulsion and Energy\, Defense. These new forums will help AIAA maintain and strengthen its role as the technical leader while becoming more relevant to a larger segment of the aerospace community. The forum strategy will enhance our events to serve a broad cross section of the membership and our industry — not only those members focused in the traditional aerospace technologies but also those working further up the “product chain\,” in process execution and mission applications as well as integration and systems. It was also to increase communication among the different “groups” involved in the aerospace development chain\, which will benefit all involved and increase innovative outcomes. \nThe AIAA Science and Technology Forum and Exposition (AIAA SciTech Forum) has continued to grow in each succeeding year\, drawing participants from around the globe.
