PhotoCam Speeder V2 from Photron solves production line jams by letting users position the one or two tiny camera heads over the area of interest. The Speeder then can record for hours until the intermittent problem occurs, permitting you to then analyze the cause of the jam in slow motion detail before fixing the problem and even streamlining the process, thus improving efficiency and ROI.

Slow motion analysis of an electrical test to establish the efficiency of protective safety clothing in and around high tension electricity. Recorded using a cloth wrapped pig’s leg and the Photron FASTCAM SA1.1 high speed camera recording at 10,000 frames per second (fps) with a global shutter time of just 5.4 microseconds (µs). The pulled pork dinner afterwards was excellent!

Schweppes ‘Schweppervescence’ shot 3 – blue and red water balloons punctured over wheat field

Shot number three from the Schweppes ‘Schweppervescence’ TV ad shows a man puncturing a ‘red inside blue’ water balloon using a long stick. Both the man and the stick were removed in post production and so not seen in the original ad. The sequence was recorded using a Photron slow motion camera at 5,000 frames per second (fps) with a 20 millisecond global shutter.

Sequence of airbag deployments recorded using Photron high-speed cameras

Photron high-speed cameras are frequently used to record an airbag being deployed. Typically the airbag, already mounted in the steering wheel, seat, or car trim, is heated or cooled to fairly extreme temperatures before the airbag is actuated to ensure its successful deployment, regardless of where in the world it might occur. The Photron camera, recording at several thousand frames per second (fps), enables the engineers to study, in slow motion detail, exactly what occurs in the few milliseconds it takes for an airbag to deploy and ensure the vehicle occupants safety.

The original high-speed video of an knife puncturing a water balloon

Recorded by NASA’s Jet Propulsion Laboratories (JPL) while familiarizing themselves with the PHotron high-speed camera, the sequence shows an Exacto knife puncturing a water filled balloon. Recorded at 2,000 frames per second, the sequence clearly shows the latex of the balloon receding, leaving the water still perfectly formed in the shape of the balloon, before it slowly loses shape as it falls to the table.

The FASTCAM SA-X2 high-speed camera from Photron is most sensitive in the ideal spectrum for combustion imaging. With a qualified ISO12232 sensitivity of ISO 25,000 for monochrome and 10,000 for color, the SA-X2 provides mega pixel resolution to 13,500 frames per second (fps) and reduced resolution to over one million frames per second.
